Kitchen Trends 2016

Style predictions for the home in 2016, emanating from industry trade shows and the interiors press, include natural textures such as wood, stone and marble, along with tropical prints, mixed metallics, handcrafted artisan, and soft pastels. Encouraging home owners to be creative and perhaps a little bolder with design, we thought it would be interesting to talk to industry experts on the front line about which trends they’ve seen filtering through to the order books. We recently caught up with seasoned kitchen designer, Mike Hammerton of Hammerton’s bespoke kitchen design and Caraco worktops, based in Cross in Hand, East Sussex, to find out what’s popular with his customers.

Mike says: “Our customers are mostly asking for ‘pebbly’ colours such as stone, greys, sage greens, off-whites and creams. All these colours complement our steel grey and ‘Azul Noce’ granite worktops, which are really popular in both polished and other finishes at the moment.

We’re not seeing a high demand for pale blues as yet this year, but we recently designed and made a kitchen in a striking ‘French Navy’. Traditional styles remain popular, with customers asking for oak doors in particular. We’ve not seen much demand for high gloss, although hi-tech style is one of the predicted trends this year according to Houzz.”

If you’re planning your kitchen, you can find useful information on the Hammerton’s website on the pros and cons of a variety of worktop materials, helping you to choose your perfect worktop.
